Box Office Information 6th-8th July 07

All together now - "Yippee-ki-yay!", for Bruce Willis returns as the white-vested John McClane in Die Hard 4.0 (20th Century Fox) which opened in 2nd place this weekend taking £5m including previews (£1.6m previews since last Wednesday). Rather than having to deal with the good ole fashioned terrorists we are used to in the shape of Cold War Russians or disgruntled brothers, McClane's new enemies come in the shape of cyber-terrorists who attempt to take down the entire computer and technological structure of the United States, played by Maggie Q and Timothy Olyphant. It just goes to show that you are never too old to wear a tight white vest, for Mr Willis is 52 this year.

The big green giant, otherwise known as Shrek, remains at the top of the box office chart this week as Shrek The Third (Paramount) took another £5.1m over the weekend, bringing its total to date up to £25.7m and making it the 3rd highest grossing film of the year. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (20th Century Fox) is in 3rd place with £11.4m, whilst Ocean's Thirteen (Warner Bros.) remains a high roller in 4th place with £12.4m. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (BVI) is in 5th place having taken £39.7m to date, remaining the highest grossing film of the year. Could this be shattered by Harry Potter and friends however as another term at Hogwarts starts this Friday (July 13th) when Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix opens???

The second new entry into the chart this weekend is The Ugly Duckling And Me! (Eclipse) which took £30k on opening weekend. Opening in 13th place, The Ugly Duckling And Me! is an animated version of Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale. Quack!

Interesting film fact of the day: Live Free Or Die Hard, the American title for Die Hard 4.0, comes from New Hampshire's state motto, whilst in French, the title translates as 'Die Hard 4.0: Return To Hell'.
