Box Office Information 17th-19th August 2007

After having issues with his identity in 2002 and becoming supreme in 2004, Matt Damon is back as government agent Jason Bourne offering up his final ultimatum in The Bourne Ultimatum (Universal) which landed the top spot in the box office chart. Taking £6.6m on its opening weekend (including previews), in this third and final (?) installment of the franchise, Bourne (Matt Damon) is still haunted by amnesia and hunted by the CIA although this time he is racking up some serious air miles across Morocco, Madrid, Berlin, London and New York, trying to evade and outsmart those who are set on killing him so that the secrets of Treadstone and Bourne's mission stay secret.

The Simpsons Movie (20th Century Fox) remains in 2nd place with a box office total of £33.9m, whilst Carter and Lee aka Tucker and Chan are wreaking more havoc in Paris for Rush Hour 3 (Entertainment), which has taken £6.3m after 2 weeks.

It's simply plastic fantastic for the next new entry into the box office chart as the world famous dolls - Bratz - have finally hit the big screen after what seems like a very long wait! Bratz: The Movie (Momentum) took £1.2m (including previews) on its opening weekend and follows four BFF (that's Best Friends Forever for those not down with the kids) Yasmin, Jade, Sasha and Cloe who after starting high school find themselves facing up to the student body president - Meredith Baxter Dimly - who is determined to split them up into different social cliques, which would like be the most totally worse thing that could happen to them like! Jon Voight also has a cheeky cameo role as the school principal.

The last new entry into the chart comes from New Zealand and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Eagle vs. Shark (Optimum) is a wry comedy looking at the quirky romance of two awkward misfits - Lily (Loren Horsley), a shy fast-food restaurant cashier, and Jarrod (Jemaine Clement), an electronic store clerk. On the day Lily gets fired from her job at Meaty Boy, she musters up the courage to attend Jarrod's annual "come as your favourite animal" costume party, where from there they journey to Jarrod's quiet hometown where Jarrod plans to seek revenge on an old nemesis, whilst Lily unwittingly finds herself stranded amongst Jarrod's family of eccentrics.

Interesting film fact of the day: 80s singer and American Idol judge Paula Abdul was originally signed on to be the executive producer, fashion designer and choreographer behind Bratz: The Movie but found out via an email to her Blackberry that she was fired. It's like totally harsh.
