Box Office Information 14th-16th September 2007

Simon Pegg has managed to rack up a total of £4.5m for his sponsored marathon, meaning that Run, Fat Boy, Run (Entertainment) has remained at the top of the box office charts for a second week.

Now, we all remember what it was like to be in our last year at high school - panic over getting into the university of our choice, anxiously waiting for the term to end, having to face potentially being separated from our bestest friend ever! But for Seth and Evan (Jonah Hill and Michael Cera) in Superbad (Sony), this also comes with the added complication of having to buy alcohol underage and trying to get laid before the end of term. Taking £1.5m on its opening weekend, Superbad is American Pie for the next generation with the addition of two slacker cops (one played by Knocked Up's Seth Rogen) and a new uber-geek to make the Sherminator look like a big girl's blouse - bring on McLovin!

Keira Knightley and James McAvoy have helped Atonement (Universal) reach a £4.4m box office after 2 weeks, whilst Matt Damon has helped The Bourne Ultimatum (Universal) become the most successful Bourne film in the franchise. Currently sitting at 4th place in the chart, The Bourne Ultimatum has taken £21.4m.

The next new entry into the chart is a remake of the Hitchcock classic Rear Window. Opening in 5th place, Disturbia (Paramount) took £728k (including previews) and stars Hollywood golden boy Shia LeBeouf as Kale - a teen under house arrest who fulfills his days spying on his bikini-clad next door neighbour. Things take a turn for the worse however when he accidentally sets his sights on his mysterious next door neighbour (David Morse) who tends to resemble a murderer through his curious nocturnal behaviour and Kale attempts to break the conditions of his house arrest to investigate.

It's been a while since we have had a film with non-stop bullet-flying action scenes and Shoot 'Em Up (Entertainment) has not failed to deliver! Opening in 7th place and taking £375k on its opening weekend, Clive Owen stars as Mr Smith - a man reluctantly forced to protect a pregnant woman and ultimately deliver her baby whilst she is being pursued by gunmen. As if all this isn't too much for a days work, he then unites with a prostitute (Monica Bellucci) who helps protect the newborn, and comes face-to-face with the head of the baddies played by Paul Giamatti.

The last new entry into the weekend chart is a re-make of a classic western - 3:10 To Yuma (Lionsgate). Opening in 8th place, having taken £369k, Christian Bale stars as Civil War veteran Dan Evans who has volunteered to bring the outlaw Ben Wade (played by Russell Crowe) to the station where he will catch the 3:10 train to Yuma and stand trial. As they spend time with one another however, they gain a mutual respect for one another.

Interesting film fact of the day: Eric Bana and Tom Cruise were originally chosen to star opposite one another for 3:10 To Yuma.
