New Releases

The all star cast doesn't quite push Stardust to the top of the weekend box office this week as Ratatouille remains in the top spot for a second week. The fantasy adventure from the director of Layer Cake becomes the 19th highest opening of the year taking £2.2m, can half term help push up it's box office takings?

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are rumoured to have sparked an off screen romance on the set of their latest release, Rendition. The political thriller enters the box office @ #3 taking £600k, unfortunately not making a mark on the highest openings but joining other notable releases of the last year (Babel, Syriana and A Mighty Heart) in trying to document the current political environment.

After Ratatouille last week, the rest of the family focus films were released this weekend.
Teen sleuth Nancy Drew entered the box office at #10, starring Julia Roberts niece, Emma Roberts, it took £135k over 300 screens whilst The Dark is Rising released over 380 screens and entered the box office @ #7 taking £214k.
Out of the top 10 The Last Legion took £126k and entered the weekend box office at #11.
